Global Functional Steering Test Rig SPHERA

The Steering Gear Functional test rig allows to apply loads to the rack of a steering gear with an adjustable inclination of the arms within a solid angle of +/- 30° and the possibility to position the unit simulating the steering wheel rotation within a spherical cap.

The lateral units applying forces to the rack are positioned by means of electrical motors while the steering unit is moveable on rails and , once reached the position , locked by means of pneumatic brakes. The maximum lateral force is 30 kN and the maximum steering torque 200 Nm. The complete system is electromechanical type. The test rig can carry out the following tests:

- rack-pull
- pinion torque
- computation of mechanical efficiency
- rolling torque measurement
- valve curve measurement
- buckle bending measurement
- friction measurement
- measurement steering gear stiffness
